Theresa Hak Kyung Cha was a Korean American avant-garde interdisciplinary artist and writer. Her book Dictée is frequently taught in contemporary literature classes, including in women's literature and Asian American Studies. I wanted to start a portrait series of important legacy writers whose work has been influential to my own creative writing. This portrait is based on a photo of Cha taken in South Korea a few years before her murder in New York City.
