Fine art reproduction of my original oil painting of Suehiro Cafe, the longtime Japanese American restaurant in Los Angeles's Little Tokyo.
For more than five decades, Suehiro was part of the everyday life of the neighborhood—a gathering place for generations of residents, artists, workers, and visitors. I painted the restaurant as part of my ongoing work documenting places that hold community memory and reflect the changing landscape of Little Tokyo.

Painting Little Tokyo
Little Tokyo has been a recurring subject in my painting practice, particularly its restaurants, temples, storefronts, and other places where everyday community life accumulates over time.
I am interested in these sites not simply as landmarks, but as places shaped by memory, displacement, cultural continuity, and change. Restaurants such as Suehiro Cafe, Kouraku, and the former Atomic Cafe become informal archives of the neighborhood: places where generations have eaten, worked, gathered, and encountered one another. Buddhist temples, streetscapes, and residential buildings similarly hold histories that aren't always visible from their architecture alone.
Rather than treating Little Tokyo as a fixed historical district, I approach it as a living neighborhood. These paintings move between observation, personal experience, community history, and the ordinary visual details of contemporary Los Angeles.

An original painting on paper of a bon odori dancer. Obon (お盆) is the annual Japanese summer festival honoring ancestors, in which the dead are invited to return and visit. During bon odori, celebrants perform different folk dances.
