About the Artwork
Theresa Hak Kyung Cha (1951–1982) was a Korean American writer, artist, and filmmaker whose experimental work has had a lasting influence on Asian American literature and contemporary art.
I created this portrait as part of a series honoring writers whose work has been important to my own development. For many Asian American writers and artists, Cha’s work remains an important touchstone, and her writing has been particularly significant to my own practice.
